VSS AMAC FRONT HARVESTER FOR ONIONS
LATEST DEVELOPMENT ON ONION TECHNOLOGY
The VSS AMAC Front harvester for onions (FRU) is the latest development in onion harvesting technology. Both folding the onion foliage and harvesting the onions are done in the front of the tractor at 3 meters working width. Benefit of this? It provides very high capacity!
Especially with a second harvester on the rear of the tractor, which also provides additional soap capacity. This complete machine comes in one version, the FRU 3000, but has several options.
OPERATION OF THE FRONT HARVESTER
The machine folds the onion haulm by means of a flail shaft and throws the haulm onto the discharge conveyor. The depth control of the haulm topper is standard automatic; the probes are mounted at the front of the machine. The haulm discharge conveyor is hydraulically driven and can discharge to the left and right. Onion harvesting is done with ten or eleven non-powered harvesting discs with a small serrated or two powered staggered harvesters. The harvesting section is integrated into the machine as a sub-assembly. The harvesting depth of the discs or harvesting shafts can be adjusted independently of the haulm topper. The discs are divided into two disc fields. These two fields are separately adjustable in working depth.
OPTIONS AND POSSIBILITIES
Optional automatic depth control is available on the harvesting section. Standard depth is controlled by four manually adjustable wheels. Also, the distance between the discs is adjustable, allowing the machine to be used for various crops. Mounted on the left and right sides of the FRU are two racks that force the outer rows of harvested onions toward the center. This is how the onions end up between the tractor wheels. In this way, the use of wide tires on the tractor is possible. As an option, two hydraulically driven upright bar belts that bring the onions inside are available. In doing so, you provide better cleaning of the onions.
We recommend widening the track width. Approximately two meters between tractor wheels is required for optimal operation. Additional screening capacity desired? Then combine the FRU 3000 with a
VRU 2250 onion harvester
. The FRU comes standard with front lighting/marking signs in LED.
GRUBBING WITH DISCS VS. GRUBBING UP WITH HARVESTERS
You can harvest onions with the FRU in two different ways: with discs or with harvest shafts behind the topper. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. The FRU with discs guarantees high capacity and allows harvesting in harsh conditions without damage. In addition, the system is very low maintenance. But there are also limitations with discs: For example, grubbing onion sets is not possible and the machine has a tougher time with different sowing distances. That does go easily(er) in combination with grub axles. In addition, an advantage of harvester axles is that they allow for twin row harvesting. On the other hand, it is a more sensitive system in maintenance and harvesting with harvesters brings a slightly lower capacity.
